In India, there are several couples who are unable to conceive even after trying for long. The reasons could be varied. Of the many reasons, infertility is the most common problem that causes hindrance in the overall reproductive process. Several treatments have also been devised to overcome this problem; In Vitro Fertilization is one such treatment. Doctors at ARC help couples in overcoming such problems in the best possible way and have also carried out several successful treatments which have given numerous couples the chance to conceive and be blessed with a child.

What is In Vitro Fertilization?

This is an assisted reproductive technology that helps in fertilization by extracting eggs from female body and retrieving a sperm sample followed by manually combining both in a laboratory dish. After doing so, the doctors transfer the embryo(s) so developed into the female uterus. The entire treatment is based on five steps.

Step 1: Medications are prescribed to the female partner for stimulating egg production. It is done in order to develop multiple eggs within the female body, as some eggs might not develop properly and not help in the fertilization process. Then tests are conducted to check the hormone levels and to examine ovaries.

Step 2: Eggs are extracted using a hollow needle that is passed through the pelvic cavity. The entire process is being watched by ultrasound imaging that helps in proper egg extraction process.

Step 3:The male is asked to produce samples of sperms that will be used for combining with the eggs in the laboratory dish.

Step 4: After extracting eggs and collecting sperm sample, both are mixed together and stored till the fertilization takes place. Constant monitoring is done to keep a check on the fertilization process, once fertilization occurs; the fertilized eggs are considered as embryos.

Step 5: Once embryo(s) is developed, it is transferred to the female body using a small tube. Usually, it is transferred post 4-5 days of fertilization.
