Urgent care is not the same as emergency treatment. They may be used synonymously but are not the same thing. Hospitals and clinics provide you with proper treatment but they cannot help a victim immediately at the spot of the accident. Urgent care can be explained as a care or initial support that is provided to a patient to give them relief as soon as the accident occurs.

It has not been very long when hospitals could serve to only a particular group of the community. But nowadays, health institutions are becoming very busy places. The emergency wards or departments of hospitals and nursing homes are most of the time overcrowded. Nowadays, hospitals and nursing homes are basically understaffed or overburdened with cases that require immediate attention and care and thus if somebody reaches the emergency ward with a less serious case such as a sore throat or any insect bite, then probably you have to wait a long time before beginning with any treatment.

This is the place where urgent care starts to play a crucial role. Urgent care systems or centers bridges the gap between traditional hospital emergency wards and no care at all. Urgent care centers provide a walk-in treatment and support the wait before a doctor-assisted treatment. However, in cases of very emergency conditions that tend to be life-threatening, the urgent care centers do not play any role. At urgent care centers, a patient or a victim can visit a health worker without prior appointment, in the same way as it is in an emergency ward. Unlike hospitals, where doctors are hardly available on Sundays and public holidays, urgent care centers provide doctors and services all the time because accidents do not occur pre-planned.

Urgent care centers should be visited when a patient requires treatments for any acute illness or trivial injury. These centers are usually staffed by physicians, physician assistants, nurses, practitioners, radiologists or other health workers.

The popularity of urgent care centers is increasing at a faster rate nowadays throughout the world. Some of these centers are hospital-affiliated while most of them are autonomous bodies.
